Kelvin

People often describe me with any combination of the following words: serious, boring, old-fashioned, and traditional, but throughout this relationship I’ve broken character by metaphorically coming out of my shell. Never in my wildest imaginations would I have thought I would fall in love with a “FOB” let alone marry one. And when does an introverted Eastern Suburbs boy who spends hours on sports history venture into the muddy waters of online dating? What do they say again? You’d do anything for love.

Linny certainly has, and during our relationship I’ve felt accepted and encouraged to be totally who I am. From our early days of getting to know each other through texts and calls, to our many travelling experiences interstate and overseas, and to our plans for the future, she has been my comforter and source of stability.

I look forward to celebrating with you all!

Linny

My journey in Melbourne began in 2010 when I came as an international student and since then it has become my second home. Being far away from home, Vietnam, since young, I taught myself to be strong and independent but since Kelvin come into my life, I realise that it’s ok to share my burdens with someone else.

As someone who always preferred traditional ways of meeting a partner, I didn’t see myself using a dating app. But due to some successful stories from friends I was inspired to give it a shot. Kelvin was the first person I spoke to, and the rest is history.

My first impressions of him were that he was totally opposite with me – he is structured, and I am spontaneous; he loves sports, and I have close to no clue about it; I love plants, and he has no interest taking care of even a small pot! As the old saying goes, opposites often attract and over time we have learnt many things from each other. Regardless of our differences I’ve come to appreciate that when it comes to the important things in life, we share the same values.

If I haven’t had the chance to meet you yet, let’s make sure we do that in September! Thank you for coming to celebrate with us. I can't wait!

Love story

Our Love Story

As you’ve read already we met the modern way, and how fascinating life is that we are about to marry the person we swiped right on. After a month of texting and phone calls to get to know each other, like other couples we decided to finally meet over a round of mini golf and a nice lunch by the Yarra River.

Linny was impressed by Kelvin’s dedication to plan for their many future dates and what started out as “one date per week” quickly became numerous spontaneous catchups to spend time together.

Over a year later during our one-year anniversary trip in Japan, Kelvin proposed at the foot of Mount Fuji against a backdrop of thousands of cherry blossom trees. Under the pressure of hundreds of people watching, she humbly obliged and said “yes” (Haha).

These months of wedding planning have been busy, tiring, and sometimes stressful, but as we take a moment to reflect over our story we are incredibly thankful for the love and support of everyone on our journey.
